Wrapped in the surreal of fantasy, my character-driven writing is rooted in the rawness of the human experience.  I aim to fully immerse readers in the worlds I have created.  I strive for readers to feel seen and seduced by each character, experiencing their tribulations and triumphs as if they are a part of the story.  When I am not writing, I read poems, short stories, and novels.  Analyzing a writer’s craft is one of life's simplest pleasures.

​From the microscope…

By day, I am a microbiologist.  I have studied and worked in several disciplines, from food microbiology to water safety, all of which stem from my passion for public health.  My interest in science began at a young age when my father, a scientist, encouraged me to question the world around us.  That inquisitive spirit never left, causing me to seek out and understand the mysteries and machinations of the natural world while enjoying the small wonders of the unknowable.  My work in microbiology is often filtered through an analytical lens, but I still consider science to be its own form of magic.

…to the ice rink.

Born and raised in the hockey-obsessed upper Midwest, I was destined to love the sport.  When I was only a week old, my family brought me to the local ice rink - after all, hockey tournaments don't stop just because of a birth!  Inspired by my older brother, I was in hockey skates by the age of four.  Ice hockey is one of my most beloved hobbies, and it has helped me connect with people from a wide array of backgrounds.  The ice rink is my home away from home, and I see myself playing hockey for the rest of my life.​
